Short thought on the concept of “Optional” taxes.

The idea works like this: People can choose to pay either the traditional method of tax calculation or pay using a different method of tax calculation.

How does letting people choose the method that allows them to pay less taxes help solve the deficit problem?

How does letting people choose the method that allows them to pay less taxes help close tax loopholes if it leaves the loopholes but gives people another option that might provide a different kind of loophole?

How does letting people choose the method that allows them to pay less taxes do anything other than reduce the governments income and provide some people with a new way to pay less taxes. This is a good thing only after we’ve cut spending to the point where the government can persist with less cashflow.

Optional tax calculation methods are nothing more than another loophole.

Wil Ogden was destined to be a wastrel but thwarted fate. During his second junior year in high school he discovered he had a muse and a talent for writing. Despite taking almost a decade to complete a bachelor's degree by changing majors eleven times, he managed to grow up. Along the way he worked as a blacksmith, a record store manager, a candy store manager, too many years in food service, a four year stint in the USAF, and finally settled down into Information Technology, which he uses to pay the bills and support his family of himself, his wife, son, seven daughters, two dogs, three cats, six chickens, a snake, a ferret and two parakeets.
